Prompt: What is the function of a portfolio? What is the difference between an archive of information and a portfolio?
Response: The function of a portfolio is to display a plethora of information about one subject with multiple prompts. An archive can hold information on multiple subjects, but a portfolio focuses on one main subject. An archive, in other words, is limitless, where as a portfolio is limited. Also, a portfolio is usually in the form of a book, or held together by some kind of binding. An archive is more free of formatting.
I chose to put this article in my e-portfolio to show that I was wrong on some things about portfolios. Obviously, there is no necessary bonding of pages in my e-portfolio, but it is still very much considered as a form of a portfolio.

Journal Entry #2
The following journal entry was written on November 26, 2012.
Promt: What is rhetoric?
Response: Through this class, I have learned that rhetoric is a reason for arguing or proving a point. Rhetoric contains three major components: ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethose includes ethics, morals, and credibility. Pathos contains emotions, such as sympathy and empathy. Logos contains logic. Rhetoric is used when someone is in an arguement and is brought up to show a certain approach to the topic at hand.
Prompt 2: Find the ethos, pathos, logos, thesis, from the video on mountain top removal. Determine whther or not the video was effective. Why, or why not?

Response 2:
Ethos: leaving minors jobless, economical issues are furthered
Pathos: effecting communities, drowning of two neighbors, "breaking covenant with God and creation"
Logos: burying small streams, severe flooding, environmental problems for everyone
Thesis: to make everyone aware of the dangers and inconveniences of mountain top removal
Effective? Yes. Using "destroyed our lives completely" as an opening line automatically drew me in. Also, the line "the planet shares water, if one drop is polluted, it's all polluted" was very effective. Key signals of seriousness such as flashing large words with facts on the screen while playing somber music in the backround helped the effectiveness as well.

Promt: What does "reasonably objective" mean?
Response: I think that when writing an argument, being reasonably objective lets someone tastefully disagree with a statement.

Welcome to my English blog!
My name is Kelsey Yvars and I am a first semester freshman at UNC Charlotte.
This is just a collaboration of a few of the journal entries and completed works that I have created through my first semester at UNCC in my English 1101 class. While reading some of these, please know that this blog is only to document the process of becoming a better writer, so some of the works may not be an ideal shakespearean piece of literature.
